The Butler Trust’s Patron, HRH The Princess Royal, showed her support to #HiddenHeroes during the Covid crisis on video and in person.
Video message
During the first lockdown, as she was unable to do so in person, The Princess paid tribute to staff in a video posted on the #HiddenHeroes message board.
Prison visits
After the lockdown was first lifted, HRH was keen to meet staff to find out more about the challenges posed by Covid and thank them for their on-going service. In a six week period from mid-September 2020, The Princess visited five prisons across the UK: including HMPs Edinburgh; Moorland, in Yorkshire; Bullingdon, in Oxfordshire – where she joined the prison’s #HiddenHeroesDay celebrations; Isis, in London; and on the last day before lockdown was re-imposed, Hewell, in Worcestershire. She also visited HMP Hull in early 2021, after the second lockdown ended, and attended the second #HiddenHeroesDay that September, on the site of HMPs Brinsford, Featherstone and Oakwood.
